Teaching Assistant Ruby develops passion for SEND
Inspire ATA is proud to share success stories from apprentices from across our programmes. Today we are sharing the story of Ruby, a 19-year-old SEND Teaching Assistant from Baskerville School.
Ruby found her apprenticeship programme through recommendations saying, “I chose this programme as it had good recommendations and I like the way it was set out and explained step by step, as well as the amount of support you receive.”
When discussing the benefits of an apprenticeship programme Ruby highlighted the importance of the qualification and knowledge you receive through the programme.
Ruby enjoys her role in a school setting and working with children, saying the best thing about her role is “seeing the students I work with achieve little milestones.”
Throughout her programme Ruby has been supported by her Inspire ATA tutors and she shared “I have been supported very well in my apprenticeship with Julie Phillips as my tutor and Kate Merrick as my Maths tutor, they are always there to support and help me whenever I need it.”
Ruby is taking part of a specialised Teaching Assistant SEND (Special Education Needs and Disabilities) pathway learning how to support pupils with SEND. This pathway was ideal for Ruby, and she highlights the SEND knowledge and skills she’s developed as the most important she’s learned in her programme saying, “the main skills for life I’ve learned is to support SEND students in the best way I can make sure they have good life after school.”
After completing her programme Ruby is looking to continue on with her passion for sending and progress into a teaching course that focuses on SEND.
Best of luck in the future, Ruby!
