Lamar starts a career in Sports Coaching with apprenticeship

Inspire ATA supports individuals start their career and find their ideal role. 22-year-old Lamar is currently completing his Level 4 Sports Coach apprenticeship with Inspire ATA. Here is his story:

“I chose this programme because I’m very passionate about helping others improve their physical fitness. This programme gives me a very good experience while also allowing me to progress my own skills and developing myself as a coach.

I think the main benefits of an apprenticeship programme are gaining practical experience while learning. Because not only are you building that experience, you’re also getting a qualification while doing so.

The best thing about my role is seeing the children progress and improving their skills within sports. It shows I’m doing my job as a sports coach and the children are taking in knowledge and skills from me well, but the main thing is that the children are happy to know they have PE.

I’ve been supported through quite a lot of feedback from my mentor about my lesson I take that help me build my coaching skills. And from the inspire team itself they’re always there to offer guidance and support when I need it.

I’m learning communication, teamwork, leadership and patience which are skills that I think are beneficial to everyday life not just as a coach, they’re important because it helps me build good relationships solve problems and support others well both in and out of doing sports.

My next step is to continue developing as a sports coach by working in schools or joining a coaching organisation.”

Best of luck in the future Lamar!
