How to recruit hospitality the easy way

The hospitality industry is currently facing a number of recruitment challenges. From shrinking talent pools to the lingering impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, recruiting for hospitality is now harder than ever.

Many businesses struggle to connect with, and recruit, younger generations (Gen Z and Gen Alpha) who expect quick, digital application processes as well as additional value to their employment such as training or flexible working.

In this article Inspire ATA will cover strategies hospitality employer can utilise to find new staff.

Key Strategies for hospitality recruitment:

While many tried and tested recruitment strategies are still valid, with the advent of social media its key to consider how to best position your business for recruitment.

Focus on personality

Today’s work market is fluid, and many people enjoy moving between different sectors. This means that not all candidates you meet will have the specific experience you require for the role. Instead of focusing on job specific experience, hire for passion, empathy, and a strong work ethic rather than just experience.

Leverage social media

Use Instagram and TikTok to showcase behind-the-scenes content and company culture to attract Gen Z and millennial workers.

Fast hiring process

The job market works fast, and many candidates interview for several organisations at the same time. By streamlining the interview process and getting to the hiring stage faster you can ensure your top candidate remains available and engaged.

Engage with local schools

Connect with catering colleges and local schools to find new talent and offer apprenticeships.

Hospitality Team Member Level 2

A Hospitality Team Member can work across a range of hospitality settings including bars, restaurants, cafés, conference centres, banqueting venues, hotels or contract caterers. The role is varied, and individuals tend to specialise in an area and must be adaptable and ready to support team members across the business.

Hospitality Supervisor Level 3

Develop your leadership team through Hospitality Supervisors. These supervisors provide vital support to management teams and are capable of independently supervising hospitality services and running shifts.

Production Chef Level 2

Production chefs work as part of a team in time-bound and often challenging kitchen environments, for example, schools, hospitals, the Armed Forces, care homes and high street casual dining or pub kitchens.

Commis Chef Level 2

A commis chef is the most common starting position in many kitchens and in principle the most junior culinary role. A commis chef prepares food and carries out basic cooking tasks under the supervision of a more senior chef.

Chef de Partie Level 3

Grow your kitchen staff by recruiting a Chef de Partie. Also known as a station or section chef, the Chef de Partie reports to the senior chef and has a very important role in any type of kitchen.
