Grow your confidence as an apprentice

We all have times where we might question ourselves and feel a lack of confidence in ourselves and our abilities. As apprentices, you are in a position where you are learning new skills and growing as a working professional which is why it’s important to work on growing your confidence as you develop in your career. In this article Inspire ATA has gathered some tips to help you grow your confidence.

Continue learning

As an apprentice, you are at the starting point of growing your future career, so it’s understandable and expected that you won’t know everything just yet, which can be scary and hurt your confidence. To combat this, instead of looking at instances where you were didn’t know something as a negative, take it as a growth opportunity. Use this experience as time to learn something new and continue to develop your skills.

Likewise, you can take the initiative and seek other opportunities for learning and developing by observing the work of those around you and look to learn and develop in those areas as well. That would benefit your day-to-day work in giving you a deeper understanding of it and can provide additional growth opportunities for your future career.

Celebrate small victories

Negative or constructive feedback is always louder than positive ones and it’s easy to forget your successes. This is why it’s crucial for you to celebrate your wins, no matter how small you may think they are. Try to make note each time you have a small victory or positive feedback and look back at those whenever you feel that you need a boost.

Focus on your strengths

Wherever you go and whatever stage of your career you will be, you will always bring your own unique set of skills and strengths to the table. Whenever you find yourself questioning your abilities, try to remember your strengths and work out how you can utilise those to resolve any issue you have.

Face your fears

Trying new things or revisiting something that you struggled with previously can be daunting, but it is important that you keep trying challenge yourself even when you don’t feel confident. By trying new things or having another go on something that was not successful in the past would help you to develop and grow. And as mentioned above, even if you don’t succeed, just take it as an opportunity to learn.

Have a supportive environment

As an apprentice, you have a network of people around you who are there to support you and guide you throughout your journey. Leaning on the people around you for support can help validate your experience and show you that you are not alone.
