SEND Teaching Assistant Aimee grows in confidence through apprenticeship
Inspire ATA offers a range of apprenticeship pathways for those looking to get into teaching. One of our most popular apprenticeships is our Level 3 Teaching Assistant SEND Pathway programme which offers apprentices the opportunity to specialise in supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Inspire ATA apprentice Aimee Strong is currently completing this programme at Thomas Bewick school. Here is her story:
“I chose this apprenticeship because I love working with SEND children and seen this as an amazing opportunity for me.
I decided to do an apprenticeship because it’s a lot easier and I get the training as well as getting hands on experience
The main benefits of an apprenticeship programme in my opinion are getting a lot of support, learning whilst working and opening the door to many other opportunities.
The most important skill I’ve developed during my apprenticeship is confidence. It’s important to be confident as it makes it easier to work with other members of the team.
The best thing about my job is being able to support the children with additional needs. Having a Teaching Assistant supporting SEND student is important as it means that they know they have people they can rely on. It also means that they have more learning opportunities as the teacher can’t focus on all of the children at once.
I feel like it has made the pupils feel more comfortable around me and I’ve got many good relationships with some of the pupils which is nice to see as they do not like too many people around them. It’s nice to know they like me being around them and being able to help them.
All my tutors have been extremely helpful throughout my apprenticeship especially Julie Phillips and Emily Nicholson.
After finishing my apprenticeship I’m hoping to get a permanent TA job role in the school I work at.”
