Laboratory Technician Daniel steps into a career through apprenticeship
Inspire ATA offers a range of apprenticeship pathways to help individuals start up a career in their chosen sectors. One of our more unique programmes is the Level 3 Laboratory Technician apprenticeship.
This occupation is found in a wide range of organisations and its main purpose is working at the forefront of technology to carry out both routine and one-off laboratory testing (and manufacturing where relevant) and perform a variety of technical support functions across the organisation.
Daniel Powell is an Inspire ATA Laboratory Technician apprentice working in the University of Greenwich. He chose this programme as he enjoys learning hands on and has benefitted greatly from this aspect of apprenticeships, as well as the ability to earn while he learns.
Apprenticeships are an alternative to other further education options such as university. When asked what drew him to this path Daniel has said that he “wanted to explore a different route”.
The hands-on aspect of an apprenticeship means that learners get the opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge in real world situations. Daniel has stated that the best thing about his role is “engaging with the students and learning new things.” In his apprenticeship he was able to develop his skills and has stated that he is most proud of “learning new skills when using machinery.”
After completing his apprenticeship, Daniel is hoping to move on to get a job in engineering where he could use the knowledge and skills he developed.
Best of luck in the future Daniel!
