Pastoral Support Practitioner Level 4

A Pastoral Support Practitioner, at times known as an Early Intervention Specialist, in a school setting identifies and supports children of all ages with developmental delays, disabilities, or behavioral challenges. They implement tailored strategies, such as Individualised Education Plans (IEPs) or small-group interventions, to improve learning outcomes, boost social-emotional skills, and prevent long-term difficulties.

Supporting nursery staff to enhance early years learning 

Support pupils and strengthen attendance, behaviour and pupil wellbeing through early intervention and support as a Pastoral Support Practitioner. This level 4 apprenticeship is designed for school staff who currently work with pupils and families to address barriers to learning, attendance and wellbeing. Mapped from the Early Intervention Specialist apprenticeship government standard this programme is built to support schools in their early intervention needs helping them to meet Ofsted guidance.

Duties

  • Identify barriers to learning, attendance and wellbeing at an early stage.
  • Support pupils and families through person-centred early intervention approaches.
  • Develop and implement tailored intervention plans to improve pupil outcomes.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils, parents and carers.
  • Assess pupil needs and select appropriate support strategies and interventions.
  • Carry out risk assessments and make safeguarding referrals where appropriate.
  • Collaborate with multi-agency services, including SEND teams and early help providers.
  • Monitor progress and review intervention outcomes to ensure effective support.
  • Maintain accurate records and use data to inform decision-making.
  • Promote attendance, positive behaviour and pupil wellbeing across the school.
